OVERVIEW

The program is written entirely in Perl and runs as a CGI script (server side).
It connects to Mysql server via TCP/IP using Perl modules DBI and DBD::mysql.
The interface of Mysql Data Manager is based on web browser facilities without using any additional image file that allows to improve page downloading rate.

Current version of Mysql Data Manager supports the latest production release of Mysql Server.

Requirements:

Server side: There is no special hardware requirement. Perl and the following Perl modules must be installed: CGI, DBI and DBD::mysql.  It is recommenced to install the latest versions of these modules.
Client side:
There is no special requirements at all. Client interface is a regular bed browser. Recommended display size is 15” or bigger
 

Security:
Security, provided by Mysql Data Manager is fully based on the security system of connected MySQL server. A user have the same privileges as  those using pure command line client. Thus there is no need to have root access in order to use Mysql Data Manager.
If you have root access to MySQL server it is strongly suggested you do  not have a noname user for security reason.
User authentication is based on cookies with expiration time = 0.
User name and password are not stored in any config file.

Multi-user Operation:
One installation of Mysql Data Manager can be used by any number of users  via Internet/Intranet to connect and manage either the same or different  MySQL servers. Each user is provided with "personal" subdirectory (created automatically) to store SQL scripts, files for data Import/Export, backup files. The size of user subdirectories can be limited by the script owner via graphical Setup Interface.
These subdirectories are named by the script based on user name and host name of MySQL server the user is connected to. Therefore users will never interfere each other

MySQL server must be accessible via TCP/IP on remote or local host. The earliest MySQL server version supported by Mysql Data Manager is 3.22
